Use these 10 questions to help clarify a general goal, get more specific and identify your true drivers for wanting this goal. Our free life coaching tool is something we use with many of our clients in diverse ways to help gain clarity and set authentic goals based on who you are.


  1. When everything in this area is how you want it to be what will be happening?
  2. What difference will achieving this goal make to your life?
  3. What benefits will this goal bring you?
  4. When do you want to be in this position?
  1.      How will you know that you have achieved your goal?
  2.      What is motivating you to achieve this goal?
  3.      How challenging is this goal for you?
  4.      Who is in control of the achievement of this goal?
  5.      How will achieving this goal affect other parts of your life?
  6.  If you don’t achieve this goal how will you feel?


  1. Where are you now?
  2. What have you done so far?
  3. What is going on for you right now?
  4. What obstacles are you facing?
  5. What has stopped you doing more before now?
  6. What have you done before like this where you have been successful?
  7. What went well for you then?
  8. What strengths have you employed/used in the past that could help you now?
  9. What resources do you have to help you?
  10. Who else needs to be involved with this process?


  1. What could you do to move you one step closer to achieving your goal of….?
  2. What would your best friend tell you to do?
  3. What would you tell your best friend to do if they were in this situation?
  4. What else?
  5. What could you do if you couldn’t fail?
  6. If you had all the time in the world, what would you do?
  7. If you had all the money in the world, what would you do?
  8. What if you could wave a magic wand, what would this allow you to do?
  9. What if you secretly knew the answer – what would it be?
  10. What if this obstacle didn’t exist – what would you do?

Way forward

  4. What is involved in your doing that?
