You will spend 97,464 hours in your lifetime at work….. That’s over 33.3% of your time on this planet. The other 33.3% is sleeping…. Put it in that context and if you’re not happy at work, you can’t possibly be happy in life.

So many of our clients come to us as a result of one or more of these ‘Career Sins’. Work is a huge part of who we are and defines our day-to-day life. How you feel and relate to your work-life will determine the quality of your life.

If you can relate to one or more of these, make today the day you decide to take ownership of your happiness and fulfilment and do something about it!

1. DREAD

The Old Sunday Night Blues…if the thought of work coming ever closer, starting a whole new week, fills you with dread, you are committing a HUGE personal sin! If you’re not enjoying your work, your workplace, not connected with what you do, it’s time to really do something about it! Monday’s don’t have to be so bad. What would it be like to feel good about another week?

“In a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks.” -Warren Buffett

2. BOREDOM

Clock-watching Tick tock, tick tock, ‘it’s almost lunch-time, it’s only 4pm, it’s almost 5.30pm…I can’t believe it’s only Tuesday’. If that sounds like you, time is going slowly because you’re not doing something that engages your talents, that exhilarates you, that interests you. You probably live in a constant stream of ‘living for the weekend’. Time waits for no man…there really is no excuse to live like this. Advancement and growth are imperative to living life fully and with that certainly comes some discomfort, some uncertainty and fear, see the quote below.

“Fear, uncertainty and discomfort are your compasses toward growth.” Anon

3. CONFUSION

Wanting a change, but not knowing what.

So many of our clients come to us and knowing they would love a change, but have no idea what that change is. So often, confusion, is really fear, wrapped up in a nicer package for us to accept. You don’t need to know, you just need the desire to move forward and be open to what you find on the road to change.

The fantastic thing about coaching is that we always begin with exploring who you are now and what you really want. It’s funny how many people come with absolutely no idea of what they want and within weeks have very clear goals and ideas that they were too afraid to mention previously, stored in the recesses of their minds for sometime.

“By changing nothing, nothing changes.” -Tony Robbins

“When in doubt, choose change.” -Lily Leung

4. DEFEATISM

Thinking it’s too late…

Feeling like it’s too late, you’re too old, you’re too far down one road, to find another, maybe that’s for others, your situation is different, too complicated. We have heard it all before…excuses only avoid the issue. Keep doing the same thing, keep thinking the same thoughts, keep finding excuses, you keep getting the same results.

“Never too old, never too bad, never too late, never too sick to start from scratch once again.” -Bikram Choudhury.

5.  PEOPLE-PLEASING

Worrying what other people will think?

We all care what our nearest and dearest think and if we want to make what seems like a 360 degree change, it can seem very difficult to conceive of how that will go when we broach them.

“If what you’re doing is not your passion, you have nothing to lose.”

6. AIMLESSNESS

Floating along with the wind…Hoping something will happen to change in your situation. Has this worked for you so far? If yes, great, if not, take the reigns, make decisions on what you want and be strategic about getting it.

“Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change.” –Jim Rohn

7. FEAR

Fearing the unknown…Last but certainly not least, this is the GREATEST SIN OF ALL. The fear you feel, is nothing in comparison to the lifetime of joy and fulfilment you will feel when you have that self-belief and faith to take an informed leap.

“A year from now you will wish you had started today.” -Karen Lamb
